Thought Provoking Questions to Ask Yourself in 2018.

Question 1: What does it mean to be human?

This question definitely connects with one in the previous article, “What do we all have in common besides our genes that makes us human?” We all need to be accepted, feel safe, and be significant. There is also one more essential part of being human . . . being imperfect. If we can humbly admit our imperfections and character flaws, we all may find ourselves much more tolerant and respectful of each other. We humans will then be able to more easily show our humanity with each other. Maybe we could all then practice disagreeing, agreeably.

Question 2: Have you ever regretted something you did not say or do?

Of course! I can’t even count the times. You know why? I forget those many times so easily! Forgetfulness, whether at 25 years old or 73 years old, gives us all an easy excuse to not do something about those regrets. Don’t we all quickly occupy our minds and activities to avoid any lingering regret and the challenge to do something about it? Yet, the mind is a funny fellow. Often, somewhere down the road that forgotten thought or regret comes back to visit us. Maybe we should consider it a God-hint and give some attention to that hint? I think so.

Question 3: What sustains you on a daily basis?

On the physical side, I am nicely sustained by my exercise routine, the food I eat, nutritional supplements prescribed, targeted meds, and restful sleep. Again, I am also sustained daily by my faith in God, hope in humanity, and love for my family. There is always something very special on a challenging day when someone says, “Everything is going to be alright.” With a hug, hope rises again in that moment.

Question 4: What personal prisons have you built out of fears?

Fear is a powerful emotion that can ignite courage and determination or paralyze us. Fear can be a two-edged sword. We have a choice, don’t we? Do we face fear as a personal prison or passionate purpose? Which one are you embracing today?

Question 5: What three words would you use to describe the last three months of your life?

Growth, Gain, Gratitude.

Question 6: How would you describe ‘freedom’ in your own words?

Freedom to pursue Faith, Respect, Education, Endeavors, Dreams, Opportunity, and Meaning in life.

Question 7: Are you happy with yourself?

Yes, most of the time. The other times are when I regret something I did or didn’t say or do. My “happy with self” times hopefully balance out those moments when my inevitable imperfect humanity says hello once more.

Now, it’s your turn again to consider what it means to be human, what sustains you on a daily basis, and how you would describe “freedom” when you think of “wellness” and your life.
