Since I live in the Texas Hill Country area, I felt a need to share some thoughts on the tragic events since July fourth. When I now hear helicopters over my Texas hill country home near the Guadalupe River, I find myself reeling through multiple waves of emotions. What rises up is an odd disconnect, almost guilt with gratitude, for my family being safe while others are living through a tragic time of surreal along with rising waves of desperate hope and grief at the same time.
Responders just found a child’s body on a close friend’s property with 30ft high of debris to be removed, knowing they may find more bodies. In fact, two more were found next to our friend’s property, an adult and child. Heartbroken along with responders, never to forget. Oh sweet Jesus, such heartbreak! Be close to our friend and the child’s family. May this child be honored and always with a heart of loving remembrance.
I envision those helicopter pilots winging along the Guadalupe riverbanks hoping with every breath to see some sign of life. Please God, let them see a child still hanging on to life. Please God, let them rescue a mother, father, grandfather, brother, sister, a friend, even their dog. Currently, a team of search and recovery has set up their headquarters in our subdivision park pavilion along our portion of the Guadalupe, miles down river from Comfort, CenterPoint, Kerrville, and Hunt.
With every thought, my own waves of sadness linger into spontaneous waves of prayers for rescue miracles and for God’s love and comfort to surround those grieving over loss of their precious loved ones. So, if anyone who reads this is having similar moments, may you take those recurring instants to whisper deeply felt prayers God ask of you for our Texas hill country neighbors and communities.
Know with each flood of tears and prayer, they will be felt. You will surely give comfort to all who grieve this day, and for those still rescuing, and being rescued and recovered. Your love and prayers will be remembered for years to come.
